Perfect Fall Recipe For the Family: Apple and Pear Crisp


This is a perfect Fall recipe for the family! It is quick and easy and a great recipe to get your kids in the kitchen cooking with you. While you are slicing the apples and pear, your children can be measuring and mixing the topping ingredients together. Then, watch together as the crisp bubbles and browns in the oven!

Apple and Pear Crisp

Serves: 4

½ cup old fashioned oats

2 T. brown sugar

2 T. whole wheat flour

1 T. ground flaxseed meal

½ t. ground cinnamon

1/8 t. ground nutmeg

1/8 t. ground cloves

2 T. cold unsalted margarine or butter

2 apples, peeled and thinly sliced

1 pear, peeled and thinly sliced

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Mix oats, sugar, flour, flaxseed, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves in a bowl. Cut butter into small pieces and mix well in to flour mixture.

  3. Spray 8-inch square baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Place sliced apples and pears in the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle apples evenly with flour mixture.

  4. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until lightly browned.

Nutrition information per serving: 185 calories, 7.5g total fat, 4g saturated fat, 15mg cholesterol, 29g total carbohydrate, 4g fiber, 2.5g protein.
